Home Rule Petition:
Tonight (July 6, 2021), the City Council voted unanimously to forward a home rule petition to the State Legislature. This petition would allow Lowell to continue with certain pandemic-related voting accommodations including: in-person early voting, universal mail-in voting, and secure ballot drop boxes. These tools are crucial to increasing voter engagement and turnout in this critical election. In recognition of the importance and urgency of this petition, the following letter was sent to Senator Ed Kennedy, and Representatives Vanna Howard, Thomas Golden, and Rady Mom:
